ABOUT GLENN
Thank you for visiting my music site!
I can’t think of my life story apart from music: getting my first guitar in fourth grade; formative years under Pittsburgh jazz legend Ray Defade; attending University of North Texas Music School; studying guitar with master educator Bruce Arnold at Berklee College of Music (‘88); writing, recording and performing with Nashville talents Jim Frazier, Scott Roley, and Pete Strayer. Whether leading worship in youth groups or on college campuses; making music in Africa, Peru, Australia; or gigging in the cafes and clubs of DC—it’s been one long, surprising, blessed journey.
I consider myself a guitarist first, composer second, and a reluctant singer, third. The diversity of music I’ve experienced has cultivated a diversity of styles. I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to write and perform jazz, funk/soul, alt country, rock/pop, and blues. You’ll find these styles represented under the listening section, where three main projects are on display: Cecil Isaac’s Spoken in Music and Straight No Chaser bands. Cecil is a producer, musical entrepreneur and versatile drummer who has enabled me to play with such fine DC musicians as Tony Walker, Nate West, Alex Parchment, Sean Law, Percy White, Terry Marshall, Andrew Russell, Rob Spackey and Joel Littlepage. Second, an R&B/Soul outfit called Soul Suit which I co-led with the wonderful writer and down-to-soul vocalist, Russ Whitfield. And, finally my first band, Homegoing. An alt-country group with the talents of Daniel Fisher (fiddle/voice), Kara Callaghan (voice), Steve Smallman Jr. (keys, voice), Dave Kaufmann (bass) and Steve McGrath (drums).
I hope you enjoy the music (and purchase some). I would love to hear what you think and keep you updated on new music and songs, so please subscribe to hear more.
